Baseball BC Provincial Supervisor of Officials Posting

June 9, 2020

Note to national-level umpires in BC:

Please find attached a notice inviting applications for the position of Provincial Supervisor.

Baseball BC Provincial Supervisor of Officials Posting

In taking the decision to appoint a new Provincial Supervisor, we want to express our appreciation to Steve Boutang for the nine years he has served in the role, and for his contributions as co-supervisor and assistant supervisor in the years before his 2011 appointment.

We feel that it is important to have change and renewal from time to time in this key position.  Consequently, the three year appointment that will begin October 1, 2020 may be renewed, for one additional term only.

We want to congratulate the umpire community in general, but the national umpires, the BCBUA and Steve in particular, for the success in developing a strong cadre of senior umpires.  We believe that we can build on that success, and move forward more effectively, with change and renewal that includes the Provincial Supervisor position.  Change has its challenges, of course, but we are confident in the abilities of potential candidates for the position, and look forward to completing the selection process.

Over the past few months, Baseball BC and the BCBUA worked towards a collaborative process for the criteria and selection of the Supervisor, and were in substantive agreement, however our organizations could not agree that there was to be a new Supervisor appointed.  Since the Supervisor is a Baseball BC appointment, we have decided to go ahead with the appointment process.  We will be establishing a selection committee, and will invite the BCBUA to participate.
