Girls Baseball Program Update – September 18, 2013

Baseball BC would like to announce to all past, current and prospective female athletes in the Girls Baseball Program that we are very much looking forward to continuing on with the evolution of the Girls Baseball program in 2014.

The Girls Baseball Committee is currently working through the planning stages for the upcoming season as we do every year, and are fully expecting to continue to offer programming for female baseball players of all ages.

While program changes are being considered, including potential expansion into new divisions of play, we hope to be able to continue to make the experience for all of our athletes’ one that they will remember for a lifetime.

We are hopeful of announcing our 2014 Girls Program and its contents at some point this fall, and will be doing so through our Baseball BC webpage…please check back often.

For anyone with further questions on our Girls Baseball Program, please contact David Laing through the Baseball BC office.

Regards

Baseball BC Girls Baseball Committee

HER-ICANES reach the semi finals in Bantam A Provincials

The Bantam A Boys Provincials took on a more feminine look this year.  After 50 years  the first ALL GIRL team entered the provincials.

This historic event kicked off with a 13-5 loss to eventual Silver medalist Cloverdale  then an extra Inning loss to Vancouver Minor  12-10

Then a regenerated Her-icanes  won their third game verse Vernon 4-0

On the unreal pitching of Claire Eccles   complete game   - 12 Ks, NO walks, 5 assists and 3 hits on 88 pitches  one of the best performances of the tournament.  The next game was verse Victoria  a great hitting game that saw – Jayme Young and Taylor Knight  go the seventh with a lead – enter Helen Terry  for the save and a very close 11-10 win.

At 2and 2  there was still a glimmer of hope – as the team from Ridge was also 2 and 2.  Setting the stage for a “win and in game”

The stage was set enter veteran pitcher Mary Duffield – Harding

Her performance will be the talk of the year – complete 7 innings 5 hit 10 K and a nail biting 2-1 win putting the Her-icanes in the Semi finas.

The crowd was mostly cheering for the girls as they gathered respect and admiration throughout the tournament  Most of the other teams players were along the fence line cheering the girls on as they truly were the “darlings” of the tournament

The semi final game was hard fought but a tired staff could not keep up with the eventual gold medalist Campbell River Tyees

The tournament was well run Kudo to Director John Braaten   UIC and tourney Director John Begg Dana Begg and their kids, Don Fischer and the Her-icane parents who did everything else – fields, security, first aid and raffles   the Her-icanes now move on to Nova Scotia Aug 21=28

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The peewee Her-icanes and Okanagan Halos are heading to Medicine Hat for the girls westerns Aug 9-12

PeeWee Western Championships

The tournament is now planned to be in Redcliff, Alberta as the previous diamonds have been destroyed by the floods of recent weeks.  The Redcliff facility will accommodate the tournament as it has bathrooms and a concession as well.  More details to follow…
