Another BC born player has been added to Team Canada’s roster for the 2013 World Baseball Classic (WBC).
Vancouver native RJ Swindle was added to the roster to replace Jesse Crain who withdrew on Sunday after suffering a shoulder injury while in spring training with the Chicago White Sox.
Swindle is currently a free agent after bouncing around with a number of affiliations. In 2012 Swindle pitched in the St Louis Cardinals organization as a member of the Triple A Memphis Redbirds. He would finish 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA, striking out 11 in 11.1 innings.
The lefty was originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in 2004 MLB drafty in the 14th round. He’s also been affiliated with the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays.
Swindle pitched for Team Canada in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing along with the 2012 WBC qualifier in Germany.
Team Canada opens the WBC on Friday in Arizona against Italy.
There are now 12 players on Team Canada's roster that are from BC.
