December 2017 Issue - Year in Review

Team BC (Burnaby Bulldogs) are Senior Men's National Champs!

Baseball BC would like to acknowledge the on-field success of the Burnaby Bulldogs, who won the Senior Men's National Championships in 2017, hosted in BC at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria, BC.

The gold medal achievement is BC's 5th at the Senior level since 2008 and Burnaby's 2nd gold at the event - having also captured gold at the 2010 edition in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia  (Victoria - 2008, Prince George - 2012, Langley - 2014 also accomplished the feat).

Special recognition goes out to shortstop Kyle McComb (UBC) who was named the tournament's top defensive player.

Baseball BC would also like to recognize the efforts of Jim Swanson and the entire Victoria hosting committee and volunteers for their efforts in hosting a successful event.  We look forward to a repeat in 2018 when Victoria will host once again.

Check out the link below to read a recap courtesy of Chrstian J Stewart (ISN) who provided oustanding coverage and photos of the event, including the one seen above.  All the games, including the final, were also broadcast by Go LIVE Broadcasts and a link to the broacast archives on YouTube is also below.

Women's Program to Compete in LMBA in 2018

Baseball BC is currently looking for women 17 & older to play in a league competing against men of similar skill levels.  The Lower Mainland Baseball Association (LMBA) is promoting female baseball & after successfully piloting exhibition games last season, is going to support an all-women’s team in 2018.

The team being assembled is looking for women to swing wood bats once a week April to August, usually on weekends. Even though this is a fun league, some women will go on to compete for Team BC & even Team Canada; those high performance opportunities will be open to all women playing on this team.

So no matter your motive & to learn more about playing on LMBA’s 1st ever all-women’s baseball team, call or email Scott MacKenzie at Baseball BC (604-586-3315 or scottm@baseball.bc.ca).
