Press Release: BC Girls Baseball Providing More Opportunity for Females in Vancouver

  • May 15, 2019

Baseball BC is very excited to announce another partnership with its BC Girls Baseball Program, this time, with Little Leagues on the West Side of Vancouver. These recent undertakings were a couple years in the making, but Little League BC 1st Vice President & District 1 Administrator Steve Gustavson was instrumental in its creation.  He says “Interest (in girl’s baseball) is growing and we want our (Little League) girls to have the chance to be part of these programs".  Baseball BC knows Little League does a great job of developing female baseball players, & District 1 being no exception, they knew there would be interest in all-female baseball.  Kristy Watson, a mom, former Little League player, baseball advocate, & is an athlete who even played some for the BC Womens Badgers that competes in a Lower Mainland men’s league, has volunteered to lead the BC Girls Baseball Westside division.  With the support of Little Leagues executive, there’s already over 35 girls registered and many more showing their interest.  Kristy has been pleasantly overwhelmed with the response that she has received and said the 1st practice was “awesome”.  Remaining FREE festive practice sessions are Wednesday evenings 5 to 6:30pm (May 15, 22, 29 & June 5) at Quilchena Park.  If interested in being involved in the BC Girls Baseball West Side Program as a player age 7-12, motivated parent, helpful coach that’s 14yrs or older, volunteer, etc. please contact Kristy at watsonk15@shaw.ca.  Other Female Programming, from grassroots and similar programming in your area to high performance, can all be found here https://www.baseball.bc.ca/girls
